Green Gate Farm was established in "2004"
Our farm is 15 acres with two ponds, a barn, a chicken house and a 100 year old two story farm house.
In the beginning. (Things were a mess)
It was a blessing and gift from God that we were able to purchase this farm and we thank him daily. When we purchased this farm it was a complete mess. The barn was just a shed full of old trash, beer cans and tons of junk. The fences were a mess and the pastures were over grown with weeds, cedar trees and old wire. We ended up renting a dumpster and had 10 tons of trash and old debris hauled off. The barn was completely rebuilt inside. We started working on just a tack room and feed room. At first the horses stayed in stalls made of gate panels from our round pen. As time progressed we got back and side walls built, using panels as front gates. Two years ago my husband built me a really nice hay loft. This is our second round of hay in the loft. It is so nice having a place to keep it clean and dry. We built sliding doors on each end of the barn to keep cold air and wind out. This is really nice in the winter to keep the horses warm. I just love my barn. I have been very blessed. Our barn is nice, clean and very simple. We used cattle fence panels to make stall top dividers and fronts. They are very nice and safe and are easy to install. We used 3 ft panel gates for stall doors and my husband invented stall door latches out of tractor drop pins. Works great, horses can't get doors open and I can get in fast. This year we had water installed in the barn. My husband worked all day with a ditch digger cutting water lines. Last winter we had power installed and now are barn is complete. There is always work to be done.
We completely reworked the fences and cleaned fence rows. We got the pastures under some control and mainly tried to get one large pasture that was completely safe. We had over two hundred small cedar trees and medium cedar trees cut down in the pastures. I bush hogged for days and days. It has taken two years to finally get nice horse grass growing in the fields. Most of our fields have electric fencing. Our front field and around the house and entrance has board fencing which we built right away for safety. One of our back fields has old barb wire separating us from our neighbor’s cows. We hope someday to replace it.
One of the Lord's many blessings of our farm are our neighbor behind us has 178 acres that he is letting me ride my horses on. It is such beautiful land. It is all one field with only outside fencing. I am truly blessed to have such wonderful neighbors.
We cleaned up the chicken building and made a really nice place for our chickens. We try to get them to lay, but most of the time they go to the barn hay loft to lay eggs. So it’s like Easter over and over again.
I have made a huge area for our border collies. I have them in their own electric fence pen. They are safe and other dogs can't get in. Our girls get to run and place safely. We let them out on the weekends when we are home so they can run the hills and swim in the pond.
We have five horses. I registered paint mare Maggy she is 23, another paint mare Sierra she is 13, my girl Augastina she is 1/2 paint 1/2 Arabian she is 7, our miniature mare
God has truly blessed me and my family. I have so much to be thankful for. Even when I have sorrow, I pray because God has given me so much.
Another of the Best things about our farm is we live very close to our church and we have a truly wonderful church. A true home for the soul.
I hope you have enjoyed a brief history of our farm and we hope you email us and visit our site again, again.
Sincerely, God Bless you and your family,
Janine
